Jesus sums up the point to our faith, the fruit of the gospel, and the hope of eternity in His statement on the greatest commandment in all of Scripture. Our relationship with God is built on love. The greatest commandment could have been to obey God or serve God. Both obeying and serving God are important commands to follow but God made the greatest command a relationship command. Our command is to love God which only comes through a RIGHT RELATIONSHIP.
God created us to be in a RIGHT RELATIONSHIP with Him.
Sin came into the world and caused a WRECKED RELATIONSHIP with God.
God sent His Son JESUS to offer a RESTORED RELATIONSHIP with Him.
When we choose God’s gift through Christ, it restores us to a present and eternal RIGHT RELATIONSHIP with God.
The thick arrow always represents God and thinner represents us. Overlapped represents a RIGHT RELATIONSHIP with God.
The broken arrow represents un our sin which has caused relational separation. We changed. God has not.
A new element to the story has been added... the cross. Even in our brokenness God pursues us and provides a way for restoration through the finished work of Jesus on the cross.
The overlapping arrows represent when we choose to receive God's gift of salvation through Christ we are back into a RIGHT RELATIONSHIP where we were originally created to be. Our arrow starts broken but when it intersects God at the cross (the circle) we are made whole, sent as His ambassadors to the world.
